Student Testimonials

IMPROVISATION CLASSES AT THE BAD DOG THEATRE have given thousands of students:
  • a creative outlet
  • a great way to meet people
  • a fun and supportive place to let yourself go
Read on for what some of our students have had to say about us...

I was new to the city of Toronto and was looking for something fun to do, and a way to meet new people. I had so much fun, the eight weeks flew by too quickly. I love the community feel of Bad Dog, and knowing that everyone works together, and every little bit of help is so appreciated. This ensures my involvement for many more years. I can't wait to start the new year, and level three with Bad Dog.

It was my first time taking classes at Bad Dog (and I took two classes back-to-back in 2004 - just couldn't get enough!). The teacher was great (Ian Keeling), the staff are very supportive and knowledgeable and my classmates were a blast.

I took a series of courses last year and had an amazing time. Not only meeting a whole bunch of great and interesting, INTERESTING people, but laughter was all around. I took these courses as I felt a time in my life bordering on lack of confidence and the need to release some tensions. Anyway this was definately the ticket and the main thing is that I haven't had this kind of fun since being a child!! Anyway I highly recommend this for anyone and everyone....whether you have aspirations or not...its just plain fun!

When I was in high school, Theatresports was the place that funny people went, or where people went if they wanted to be funny. I wanted to try it, but I was too self-conscious back then to be funny in front of people. Years later, after motherhood stripped me of most of my previous inhibitions, I longed for a creative outlet. I found out that Theatresports was reborn in Toronto and I gave it a shot. What I discovered was a supportive, fun place to let my mind go. It's about freeing yourself to see the world a little differently. Once I managed this, great things happened for me. I flourished in a new career. I made new friends. I climbed Mount Everest, naked, and didn't even get frostbite. And I didn't care who saw it.

Theatresports Toronto workshops are some of the best I've ever been involved in. The classes are well scheduled, reasonably priced, and have a wide range of levels for anyone from the beginner on up. I was extremely impressed by the introduction on narrative structure to a series of workshops! Finally, a series of workshops designed to get you comfortable on and off stage.

Before I took a Theatresports improv class, I was a lump of dough, and there is nothing funny about dough. Now I am a loaf of bread. And if you’ve ever cut the tip of your finger off while slicing a loaf of bread, then you know. There is everything funny about bread.

Improv has changed my life for the better, and is really helping me come out of my shell. I have always been quiet and shy around new people and improv courses are helping me to explore a new side of myself. It has helped me both in the office and in my social life. TheatreSports is a major part of making this all happen. TheatreSports is not a business; it’s a community of people with a common interest. I have met some amazing people in my limited time at TheatreSports and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. It really feels like a family, and I am proud to be a part of it.

For creative thinking, writing and performing, Theatresports jumpstarts your abilities, confidence and ultimately your career! This broadcaster/journalist created a one woman theatrical comedy, 'Women who talk too much and the microphones that love them'. Couldn't have made that giant leap without all those workshops!

Micki Moore, broadcaster/journalist/improviser

What I like about Theatresports is that there is just so much going on. Classes, Friday night student show, workshops, Sunday show and all the other shows during the week. And it is cheap too. (Not suggesting you should raise it - but I personally think it is an awesome deal.) And the people - have I mentioned the people? The people are great.

I think these classes are amazing. When I first started taking them, they scared the hell out of me, but the instructors were so supportive and encouraging, they 'broke me out of my shell'. Theatresports classes definitely guide you to achieve a very unique skill which can be used not only for professional actors but apply to all professions. I would definitely recommend Theatresports to anyone interested in improv technique, or to just improve their general acting or communication skills!

How else can you laugh this hard for 3 hours one night a week?

Chris Figgures

This is my first improv class and my first class with Theatresports. I am getting everything I paid for and then some! Three hours disappears in no time. The instructor also took the time to establish a relationship within the group so that everyone felt comfortable with their level and with each other. The feedback is always encouraging. It has been a great experience and I look forward to doing more of it!

Doug (Buller) is the best teacher I've ever had - improv or otherwise.
